Seismic-While-Drilling Service Resolves Depth Uncertainty Offshore Southeast Asia

SLB worked with Southeast Asia Drilling Operating Company to address uncertainty about the depth of an offshore carbonate reservoir. The operator needed to set casing within 20 m of the formation top while avoiding accidental penetration of the reservoir during a 12¼-in hole section.

SLB deployed the seismicVISION seismic-while-drilling service to update depth predictions at every connection using real-time checkshots and images. This let the drilling team geostop the 12¼-in section before reaching the formation top and set the 9⅝-in casing as planned, resolving a ±50 m depth uncertainty and supporting successful well construction.
