Case Study: Irkutsk Oil Company achieves loss-free well kills and higher productivity with SLB’s SEAL-N-PEEL technology

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Irkutsk Oil Company Case Study

SEAL-N-PEEL pills ensure absence of fluid losses during workover operations and provides previously unattainable productivity of the well after it was killed.

SLB worked with Irkutsk Oil Company LLC at the Yaraktinsk field in Eastern Siberia, where four wells had to be killed under variable geology, high formation pressure, and a thin productive interval. The company was struggling with severe kill-fluid losses, water influx, formation damage, and paraffin/asphaltene buildup that slowed workovers and hurt post-intervention productivity.

SLB recommended SEAL-N-PEEL low impact killing technology, using sized calcium carbonate and polymers to create a low-permeability filter cake and REAWASH solvent to remove paraffin and asphaltenes before the kill pills were pumped through the annulus. The pilot on four wells eliminated kill fluid losses, reduced time and cost, shortened the time to stable production, and helped achieve target rates; for example, production increased from 216 to 357 T/day on well 145 and from 129.7 to 206 T/day on well 587, though one well saw a decline from 601 to 47 T/day.
