Santos Maps Top of Reservoir, Determines Optimal Entry Point Offshore Australia

Santos worked with SLB to improve landing accuracy and reservoir exposure in an offshore northwestern Australia well. The company needed to identify the top of the reservoir and fluid contacts before entry because seismic uncertainty and limited structural control made it difficult to choose the optimal entry point and steering path.

SLB used the GeoSphere reservoir mapping-while-drilling service to map the reservoir top and oil/water contact in real time before and during reservoir entry. The service identified the top of reservoir 20 ft below the wellpath and the OWC 43 ft below the reservoir top, enabling Santos to land the well at an optimized standoff and angle and integrate the data into its 3D geological model for future field development plans.
