Sampling and Transient Testing Prove Major Land Discovery in HPHT Carbonate for Pemex

Pemex faced a major challenge evaluating a deep, heterogeneous, naturally fractured carbonate formation in Mexico, where submillidarcy permeability, high pressure, and bottomhole temperatures above 175°C made conventional wireline formation testers ineffective. SLB used its Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform to support sampling and transient testing in the HPHT reservoir.

SLB’s Ora platform enabled controlled low-rate fluid acquisition, high-quality gas condensate sampling, and interval pressure transient testing at two stations in wells drilled to about 7,700 m. The result was representative PVT samples and reliable reservoir data that helped Pemex confirm reserves early and speed completion planning, supporting its most important land discovery in Mexico in 25 years.
