Saltel Patch Enables Cement Repair and Provides Fullbore Access to Continue Drilling

SLB worked with Eagle Ford Shale on a new well where incomplete cement between the 9 5/8-in casing and the wellbore required perforating the casing before recementing. The operator needed a way to shut off the perforations without compromising the ability to continue drilling, using a directional drilling BHA and 8 3/8-in drill bit.

SLB, through its Saltel expandable steel patch solution, manufactured a customized 9 5/8-in patch with a thinner sealing element and set it at 560 ft. The patch expanded within 2 hours, was pressure tested to 1,500 psi for 30 minutes, successfully sealed the perforations, and still allowed the drill bit and bent motor to pass through so drilling could continue as planned.
