Saka Indonesia Pangkah Improves On-Bottom ROP by 130% While Drilling High-Angle S-Type Well

Saka Energi Indonesia needed to drill a challenging S-type offshore well in the Ujung Pangkah field in Indonesia, where high torque and stick/slip conditions threatened drilling performance and safety. SLB proposed using the PowerDrive vorteX powered rotary steerable system, including the PowerDrive Xceed rotary steerable system and PowerPak steerable motor, to help manage these risks while improving rate of penetration.

SLB implemented the PowerDrive vorteX system with a customized PDC bit to drill the 8½-in section more efficiently. The result was a 130% increase in on-bottom ROP versus previous runs and a 154% improvement versus the well plan, along with nearly doubled feet per circulating hour and reduced friction factor, helping Saka Energi Indonesia save rig time and overall cost.
