Robust QUANTUM HS Packer Enables Underbalanced Perforating and Saves USD 700,000 for PDO

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) needed to improve productivity in the Saddad area by reducing reservoir damage from kill fluid across the perforation zones and avoiding the risk of unsetting the completion packer from gun shock. SLB proposed the QUANTUM HS retrievable hydraulic-set sealbore production packer to support underbalanced perforating and help enable cleaner perforation tunnels.

SLB implemented the QUANTUM HS packer with an automatic gun release system in a tubing-conveyed perforation “shoot and drop” operation. This increased first-well production by 87.5% from 240 to 450 m3/d, saved 2 rig days, and cut total operating costs by an estimated USD 135,000 for the first well. Across seven wells, production rose by an average of 200 m3/d per well and total savings reached about USD 700,000.
