Robust ESPs Handle Rapid Production Decline and High Gas Content for Chesapeake Energy

SLB worked with Chesapeake Energy to address rapid production decline, high solids content, and rising gas-to-liquids ratios in Oklahoma wells from the Mississippi Lime formation. Chesapeake wanted to keep ESPs running longer and accelerate production without driving up lifting costs, but conventional ESP technology was struggling with sand, multiphase flow, and frequent uptime issues.

SLB deployed abrasion-resistant compression pumps, MGH multiphase gas-handling systems, VGSA Vortex gas separator assemblies, Phoenix xt150 monitoring, and Lift IQ production life cycle management service. The upgraded ESPs increased average run life from 118 to 332 days, a 181% improvement, while handling production declines of up to 94% and GLR increases up to 243%. In Well C, SLB helped deliver 16% more cumulative liquids than a comparable offset using ESP then gas lift, and 55% more than gas lift alone.
