Rigless shutoff decreases water cut by 50% and increases oil production by 1,000 bbl/d in Saudi Arabia

SLB worked with Saudi Arabia Oil Producing Company on a horizontal openhole well in Saudi Arabia that was producing intermittently because water cut had risen to 60%, causing the well to stop flowing. The challenge was to identify and isolate the water-producing zone at the toe of the completion, where limited depth, temperature, and pressure information made water shut-off operations difficult.

SLB used ACTive Isolation real-time downhole measurements to accurately place a through-tubing inflatable packer and cement plug riglessly, improving isolation control and placement. The solution cut water cut by 50%, increased oil production by 1,000 bbl/d, reduced completion time by half, and eliminated rig intervention costs.
