Resistivity-at-the-Bit Measurements Guide Geostopping 0.2-m TVD Below Top of Reservoir

SLB worked with Cuu Long Joint Operating Company to help develop thin oil-bearing sands offshore Vietnam. CLJOC needed to land a horizontal well close to the top of the reservoir, reduce uncertainty in depth prediction, and cut costs by avoiding a pilot hole.

SLB used the geoVISION imaging-while-drilling service to provide real-time at-bit resistivity and gamma ray data for precise well placement and geostopping. The well was landed 15 m deeper than expected and then geostopped 0.2 m TVD below the top of the reservoir, allowing the liner to be set without losing reservoir thickness and eliminating the pilot hole, which reduced overall well cost.
