Reservoir Quality Determined from High-Resolution Images in OBM of Channel and Highly Laminated Sands

North West Shelf Offshore Australia Company needed to efficiently assess reservoir quality and determine the depositional environment of the Upper Mungaroo Formation in the North West Shelf offshore Australia. SLB used its Quanta Geo photorealistic reservoir geology service, together with Techlog wellbore software, to acquire high-resolution borehole images in an oil-base mud well where conventional imaging would have been limited.

SLB’s solution delivered continuous, high-resolution images over a 2,000-m interval in a 12¼-in borehole, providing detailed geological interpretation of channels, faults, cross bedding, laminated sands, and other key features. The imaging achieved 64% coverage, more than three times the 21% coverage of conventional OBM imagers, enabling faster, cost-effective reservoir evaluation and better determination of reservoir quality and connectivity.
