Repsol Minimizes Drilling-Related Problems and Improves Efficiency by Applying Automated MPD

SLB worked with Repsol in Peru, where the company faced major drilling challenges in a highly deviated, mechanically unstable reservoir section with a narrow operating window, high risk of differential sticking, mud losses, and natural fractures. Repsol needed help drilling through difficult formations while maintaining wellbore stability and controlling pressure in a remote jungle location.

SLB implemented the @balance Control managed pressure drilling system, along with managed pressure and underbalanced drilling services, to keep equivalent circulating density within the safe window and minimize pressure variations. The solution was rigged up in less than 15 hours and helped Repsol drill three production sections in two wells with no signs of wellbore instability or differential sticking, while also achieving excellent wellbore condition for running a 7-in liner.
