Repsol Maintains Well Integrity Using Managed Pressure Cementing Technique to Cement Casing

SLB worked with Americas Repsol in Peru to address a cementing challenge in a deviated well where a reduced annular flow area between the 9⅝-in and 11¾-in casing strings, combined with a narrow pressure window, increased the risk of losses during cement placement. Conventional cementing would have generated ECDs above the fracture gradient, threatening well integrity.

SLB used managed pressure cementing with M-I SWACO’s MPD engineering and CEMENTICS hydraulics software, sealing the annulus with the annular BOP and applying controlled surface backpressure through the choke system. The operation kept the well within the pressure window throughout cementing and WOC time, avoided losses and influx, preserved the original slurry density for maximum cement strength, and successfully achieved zonal isolation confirmed by casing bond and integrity tests.
