Record-Setting StingBlade Bit Run Saves MOL Pakistan More Than USD 100,000 and 12 Rig Hours

SLB worked with MOL Pakistan to improve drilling efficiency in the hard, abrasive Datta Formation in the Makori East field. The 6-in section contained sandstone and claystone with high pyrite concentrations, which caused severe bit dulling, low rates of penetration, and frequent bit changeouts.

SLB recommended the StingBlade conical diamond element bit to improve durability and rate of penetration. The bit drilled 74 m at 1.13 m/h, beating the operator’s benchmark by 13% and the offset-well average by 17%, while also setting a formation record for longest single-run interval. The improved performance saved MOL Pakistan about 12 rig hours and more than USD 100,000.
