Real-Time Wireless Transmission of High-Resolution Well Test Data Helps Petrobras Save Rig Time

Petrobras needed a faster way to acquire high-resolution well test data in a deepwater presalt environment offshore Brazil, where conventional surface readout systems required significant rig time and were only available during static periods. SLB, using Signature quartz gauges with Muzic wireless telemetry, aimed to deliver real-time downhole pressure and temperature data so engineers could monitor operations and adjust the test program as it progressed.

SLB deployed wirelessly enabled Signature gauges with redundant repeaters in the test string, allowing real-time transmission of flow and shut-in data throughout a 568-hour test. Petrobras was able to make decisions in real time, validate data earlier, and eliminate the need for a wireline run, reducing rig-up time from 20–24 hours to less than 6 hours and saving rig time and cost.
