Rathole Elimination System Eliminates Three Trips, Saving 72 Hours in Deepwater Well

SLB worked with the French Guiana Operating Company on a deepwater exploration well where the main challenge was to minimize the time required for hole enlargement while drilling in three sections. The operator wanted to avoid the extra trip to surface and dedicated cleanout run that would normally be needed to enlarge ratholes.

SLB used the Rhino RHE dual-reamer rathole elimination system to enlarge the hole and clean out the rathole in a single run. The system enlarged 116 m of rathole across three sections without dedicated cleanout runs, saving 24 hours per section and 72 hours, or 3 days, on the well.
