PTTEP Thailand Reduces Rig-Crew Footprint to Overcome Pandemic Challenges While Maintaining Improved ROP

PTTEP Onshore Drilling Operations faced major COVID-19-related drilling challenges in Thailand, needing to protect rig crews, maintain social distancing, and keep operations running despite travel restrictions and logistical disruptions. SLB supported the customer with its Performance Live service to help reduce wellsite exposure while sustaining drilling performance.

SLB implemented Performance Live on four land rigs to digitally connect workflows, move most analytical tasks offsite, and cut the rig-crew footprint by 50%. The result was improved operational efficiency with consistently strong drilling performance, including more than 1,500 ft/d and a sustained ROP increase to 164 ft/h in 2020, while also reducing tool reruns and supporting lower CO2 emissions.
