PTTEP Gas Lift Straddle Conversion Restores Oil Production for Mature Well

PTTEP Onshore Drilling Operations, with support from SLB, faced declining oil output in a mature well at the Bongkot gas field in the Gulf of Thailand as high water cut and reservoir depletion reduced production. The well still held remaining reserves, but the needed secondary recovery approach had been considered too costly and conventional slickline or rig-based options were either high risk or uneconomical.

SLB implemented a gas lift conversion using a Peak Well Systems SIM sealing integrity management system with a gas lift straddle, completed in just three slickline runs. The system enabled gas injection through the A-annulus and restored oil production to levels in the range of the initial postcompletion rates, extending the well’s productive life while avoiding workover rig costs and reducing ongoing maintenance.
