Proteus System Simplifies Flow Control for Five-Zone Multilateral Well in the Middle East

SLB worked with a leading Middle East operating company that needed to monitor and rapidly control production from each leg of a five-lateral multilateral well while keeping completion complexity low. The operator wanted an intelligent completion system that could remotely manage unwanted gas production in individual laterals without affecting the rest of the well, and it wanted to avoid the complexity of a conventional hydraulically controlled setup.

SLB recommended and deployed the Proteus electrohydraulic flow control and monitoring system. The five-zone system was installed with only three control lines in less than a week, and each valve was cycled to open the well in under 7 minutes, saving 3.6 hours of rig time versus a conventional hydraulic intelligent completion system. SLB also enabled the operator to monitor and rapidly control production flow from each lateral.
