Case Study: a leading oil production company boosts production 20% with SLB OpenPath Reach service

A SLB Case Study

Preview of the Leading Oil Production Company Case Study

Production from low-permeability target zone increased 67% because of coiled tubingenabled isolation and selective stimulation

SLB worked with a leading oil production company in Iraq that needed to restimulate a deep, hot carbonate well after production declined again following an earlier acid matrix treatment. The company also wanted to improve placement of acid in intervals with strong permeability contrast while avoiding the risks and delays of diesel transport for a conventional emulsified acid system.

SLB used its OpenPath Reach stimulation service with a water-based single-phase retarded acid, modeled in WellBook software and deployed with CoilFLATE coiled tubing packer and ACTive real-time services for selective interval isolation and control. The treatment reduced fluid volume by 30%, eliminated risky diesel transport, and accelerated flowback, helping boost overall production by 20% and production in the target zone by 67%, with more than USD 500,000 in early oil value and payback in less than three weeks.
