A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Alberta Gas Pipeline Company, which was operating a remote pipeline in Alberta and needed to reduce the amount of chemicals used to control hydrates while avoiding produced water contamination and corrosion risk from methanol carryover into the amine plant. The company had been injecting methanol to prevent hydrate formation, but this increased costs and caused contamination issues.
SLB recommended and implemented GT-7569 kinetic hydrate inhibitor to replace much of the methanol treatment. After optimizing injection rates, the pipeline operated without hydrate formation at 0.13 galUS/min, produced water contamination was reduced by 100%, and the volume of treatment chemicals fell by more than 80%, cutting operational and chemical costs by more than 50%.
