Previously Inaccessible Lateral Logged by Cutting Friction with Smooth-Jacketed Wireline

SLB worked with a leading operating company in Offshore Middle East to improve production evaluation in a complex extended maximum reservoir contact lateral. The operator needed production profile and zonal contribution data from a well reaching nearly 28,000 ft measured depth, but previous logging attempts with conventional high-strength cable were hindered by excessive friction and unsafe tension.

SLB recommended UltraTRAC Mono all-terrain wireline tractors with logging-while-tractoring, paired with 2-44 StreamLINE iX smooth-jacketed polymer-locked wireline cable to run the Flow Scanner production logging system. This reduced friction enough to log to 27,822 ft in a single run, including more than 17,800 ft of tractoring, and captured both flowing and shut-in data while lowering surface tension versus prior runs, enabling the operator to finally evaluate zonal contributions and horizontal drain performance.
