A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with Field Offshore Russia Company, an offshore operator in Russia that needed to kick off an existing wellbore to drill a new extended-reach well while avoiding the risk of casing interference. The challenge was to eliminate a planned motor run, extend the rathole, and start from a well with 81° inclination using an RSS.
SLB recommended the TrackMaster Select modular whipstock sidetracking system combined with the PowerDrive Xcel RSS with gyro technology. This allowed the whipstock milling and rathole extension to be completed in a single run, eliminated the motor trip, and enabled a precise kickoff despite magnetic interference from casing and the whipstock. The operation saved 5 rig days, reduced hole tortuosity, and kept drilling on the planned trajectory with near-bit inclination control.
