PowerDrive X6 RSS Proves Reliability for Record-Setting 668 Cumulative Pumping Hours

SLB worked with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to drill a complex J-type well in the Bulla Deniz field offshore Azerbaijan. The challenge was to complete the 14¾-in section while enlarging it to 17½-in through a difficult formation, high mud weight, and multiple trajectory and azimuth changes, without NPT, stuck pipe, or tool failure.

SLB deployed an integrated drilling BHA featuring PowerDrive X6 rotary steerable system, arcVISION resistivity service, TeleScope telemetry-while-drilling service, and Rhino XS reamer. The system delivered the directional drilling, logging, and underreaming objectives with zero NPT related to SLB services, ran for 668 cumulative pumping hours on PowerDrive X6, and helped SOCAR finish in 39 days, 79 days ahead of the 118-day AFE.
