A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with LLC RN-Severnaya Neft to drill four multilateral wells with five horizontals each in the Labaganskoye Field, where fractured carbonate formations, planned trajectory control, and openhole sidetracks created significant drilling risk. The customer needed to maintain wellbore placement through faults and fractures while avoiding sticking, mud losses, and buckling in long horizontal sections.
SLB used the PowerDrive X6 rotary steerable system with the SonicScope multipole sonic-while-drilling service, supported by other LWD data, to map fractures and drill in rotary mode with better control. The result was a reduction in kickoff time from 32 hours to 22 hours, shoe-to-shoe drilling in a single run, four openhole sidetracks and five laterals drilled without changing the BHA, and the longest lateral in field history drilled to 1,525 m in one run.
