SLB worked with Irkutsk Oil Company (INK) in Russia to help drill a complex horizontal well in the Yaraktinskoe field. INK needed to reduce construction time while drilling through an unpredictable reservoir and reach more pay zone to increase production, and a conventional PDM approach would have required numerous runs.
SLB designed an integrated drilling system using PowerDrive vorteX RSS technologies, Smith Bits PDC drill bits, the ImPulse MWD platform, TeleScope telemetry, and saturated salt mud. The pilot hole was drilled in a single run, setting a field footage record of 520 m in a day, and the well was delivered in less than 8 days, saving 9 days of rig time and USD 117,000.
