PowerDrive Archer RSS Delivers Well 5 Days Ahead of Plan for OMV Petrom in Băicoi Sare Field
SLB worked with OMV Austria E&P on a challenging 8½-in 3D curve section in Romania’s Băicoi Sare field, where complex geology, narrow target windows, and high collision risk made drilling difficult. The customer needed to drill the section in one run while staying within the AFE and minimizing wellbore instability and stuck-pipe risk.
SLB used the PowerDrive Archer high-build-rate rotary steerable system, supported by NeoScope sourceless formation evaluation-while-drilling, TeleScope telemetry, and an integrated BHA design. The well was drilled trouble-free in one run, reached TD 5 days ahead of plan, doubled ROP from 6 m/h to 12 m/h, and avoided NPT, stuck pipe, and lost-in-hole events.
