A SLB Case Study
Petronas Carigali worked with SLB to design an acid gas removal system for its onshore gas processing facility in Malaysia, where feed gas conditions varied widely from 12 to 25 mol% CO2 and H2S. The challenge was to reliably produce outlet gas with less than 8 mol% CO2 while handling large swings in flow rate and maintaining efficient processing.
SLB implemented the CYNARA PN-1 dual-zoned acid gas removal membrane system, using multiple modular trains to manage changing conditions and improve separation performance. The solution was delivered on time, eliminated the need for liquid chemicals, reduced installation costs by 50%, cut plot space by more than 60%, and is expected to save more than USD 180 million in operating costs over 20 years, while also exceeding design flow capacity by 20% and hydrocarbon separation performance by 100%.
