PETRONAS Carigali Eliminates Survey Time, Improves Drilling Efficiency, and Reduces Stuck Pipe Risks Offshore Malaysia

PETRONAS Carigali worked with SLB to address drilling inefficiencies and stuck pipe risks offshore Malaysia, where magnetic interference in clustered well sections made conventional MWD surveys slow and cumbersome. In its drilling campaign in the Baram Field, the company needed a better way to get reliable borehole data without losing rig time.

SLB deployed the TruLink definitive dynamic surveys-while-drilling service across three wells, providing real-time BHA location and borehole condition data with higher survey frequency. The result was up to 15 minutes of survey-related rig time saved per survey, about 8–10 hours of rig time saved per well, and reduced risks from extra pump cycles, washouts, and stuck pipe, improving overall drilling efficiency.
