A SLB Case Study
PetroMiranda faced major completion challenges in extended-reach heavy oil wells drilled through unconsolidated sandstone in Venezuela, where liners had to be deployed reliably in long, highly deviated laterals and be suitable for future thermal recovery operations. SLB was brought in to help improve completion efficiency after the first well suffered service issues and a long liner installation time.
SLB deployed the 7-in × 95/8-in COLOSSUS UNC uncemented liner hanger system with thermal elastomers and a hydraulic set-and-release running tool, supported by engineering and torque-and-drag analysis. This reduced average liner installation time from 10 days to 1.25 days per well, achieved zero NPT across 25 wells, and saved PetroMiranda an estimated USD 590,000 while helping meet production goals.
