Petrobras Saves 11 Hours, Reaches Interval TD in One Run with StingBlade Bit Offshore Brazil

Petrobras was drilling a complex presalt well in Brazil’s Santos basin and needed to reach interval TD in a single run with an average ROP above 2 m/h. SLB worked with Petrobras on the effort, using an application-specific StingBlade conical diamond element bit for the 12¼-in interval.

SLB’s StingBlade bit improved cutting structure durability, reduced stick/slip, and helped optimize drilling performance in real time. Petrobras drilled the full 274-m interval in one run, reached TD 11 hours ahead of schedule, achieved an average ROP of 2.9 m/h, and drilled 25% farther than the best offset wells while delivering 11.5% faster ROP and better cuttings for formation evaluation.
