Petrobras Accurately Lands Multiple-Target Wells Without Pilot Holes Offshore Brazil

Petrobras needed to land three multiple-target wells offshore Brazil in thin, poorly defined sand bodies without drilling pilot holes. Working with SLB, it sought a way to identify reservoir boundaries and the best landing zone in real time, using the GeoSphere reservoir mapping-while-drilling service.

SLB used GeoSphere’s more than 100-ft/30-m depth of investigation to map reservoir layers and guide trajectory decisions while drilling. Petrobras successfully landed all three wells, with two trajectories adjusted based on live formation data; the service detected thinner-than-expected sands, mapped multiple channels and shale layers, and revealed reservoir tops and bases up to 105 ft/32 m away, improving landing accuracy and drain placement.
