Petroamazonas Saves 1.5 Days in Three Wells with Central Stinger Element, Ecuador

SLB worked with Petroamazonas in Ecuador to improve borehole quality and make wireline formation evaluation runs more efficient in a multiwell drilling campaign. The wells featured challenging J- and S-style directional profiles through variable formations, and the operator needed better drillbit lateral stability to reduce ledges, spiraling, washouts, and time-consuming wiper trips.

SLB used the IDEAS integrated design platform to develop the MSiZ616 drill bit with a centrally placed Stinger conical diamond element, which improved lateral stability while maintaining durability and ROP. The result was a 27% to 33% increase in ROP across three wells, saving 1.5 days, improving hole quality, reducing wireline hanging-up risk, and supporting more successful cementing.
