Permanent Monitoring System Reveals Dominance of Lower-Zone Fractures Even Before Start of Production

SLB worked with Caspian Sea Production Company to address the need to eliminate periodic production logging in a deep, high-pressure, sour well with a challenging S-shaped trajectory and a three-stage completion. The operator needed a safer alternative that would not impede flow, while still meeting regulatory requirements for annual well logging in a high-H2S environment.

SLB deployed the WellWatcher Flux multizonal reservoir monitoring system, including pressure-temperature gauges and digital temperature arrays, across the sandface. The system was installed using standard completion processes and transmitted real-time stimulation data before production began, revealing which zones had been successfully stimulated and helping refine reservoir management and completion plans. SLB’s solution provided a lower-risk alternative to mandatory production logging, reduced deferred production, and will support future flow allocation, depletion, and connectivity monitoring.
