SLB worked with China National Offshore Oil Corporation to address the challenge of developing remaining thin oil column reserves in attic locations and thin low-permeability reservoirs in mature offshore fields. The wells had to be landed and guided precisely because the target zones were extremely thin and the oil/water contact was uncertain.

SLB used PeriScope bed boundary mapping, EcoScope multifunction LWD service, and adnVISION475 azimuthal density neutron tools to improve real-time well placement and lateral drain positioning. The first eight sidetrack and extended-reach wells produced 40% more oil than target, improved reserves recovery by up to 15%, reduced annual field decline by 14%, and saved 14% of the AFE budget.
