PDVSA Increases ROP 100 Percent and Saves 8.8 Days in Sandstone Reservoir

PetroMiranda worked with SLB to drill a high-angle 8½-in section in a challenging sandstone reservoir with interbedded hard and soft layers, severe stick-slip, and temperatures of 280 to 300 degF. The well plan required building angle from 41.5° to 45° in just 300 ft while holding azimuth, but prior wells in the area had struggled to reach the target inclination.

SLB deployed the PowerDrive Orbit RSS along with an optimized well design, bit, and drilling fluid to deliver precise directional control in the difficult formation. The section reached 45° within the first 200 ft, was drilled in a single run, saved 8.8 days of rig time, and doubled expected rate of penetration from 8 ft/h to 16 ft/h.
