OptiPac Alternate System Results in 100% Gravel Pack Efficiency and Longer Well Life
Shell worked with SLB to complete two high-rate gas wells in the Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian North Sea, where declining reservoir pressures increased the risk of sand production and made gravel packing especially challenging. The project called for a sand control solution that could maintain pack efficiency and support well integrity in a demanding offshore environment.
SLB implemented the OptiPac Alternate Path openhole gravel-pack system with ClearPAC fluids, along with related completion tools and field support, after collaborative planning and lab testing with Shell. The wells were completed on target with 100% pack efficiency, no HSE incidents, and improved well life, and Shell planned two additional wells using the same configuration.
