Optimized Drilling System Delivers ERIELL Group's Subhorizontal Well 13 Days Ahead of Plan

SLB worked with ERIELL Group on the Urengoyskoye 4 U0406 subhorizontal development well in Russia, where the team needed to drill a 152.4-mm drain section through overpressured formations while collecting MLWD data for formation evaluation. The main challenge was maintaining wellbore stability in the narrow mud-weight window of the Achimov formation while reaching more than 80° inclination at TD.

SLB assembled a multidisciplinary team and designed a tailored drilling system using real-time drilling geomechanics, MEGADRIL oil-base drilling fluid, a PowerDrive X6 rotary steerable system, and integrated logging tools including ShortPulse, PeriScope, adnVISION, and SonicScope. The solution increased on-bottom ROP by 30% and allowed the section to be drilled and the liner run to TD 13 days ahead of plan, with no kicks or losses.
