Operator Saves Additional Run Using ACTive PTC Tool During Mechanical Descaling Operations

SLB worked with Saudi Arabia Operating Company, which needed to prevent gas influx and circulation losses during mechanical descaling in a sour gas well with heavy iron sulfide scale, high H2S/CO2, and bottomhole temperatures above 300 degF. The operator also wanted real-time downhole measurements to make mechanical descaling and abrasive perforating more efficient.

SLB deployed the 3 1/4-in ACTive PTC live CT pressure, temperature, and casing collar locator tool to provide real-time downhole readings and support higher pumping rates. This enabled successful descaling at a 2,500 psi differential pressure, real-time gamma ray depth correlation, and an additional saved run, reducing operational time by 40% and increasing operational efficiency by 30%.
