Operator Optimizes Drilling Performance Successfully Reaching Total Depth with SonicScope 825 Service

SLB worked with South China Sea Operating Company, an offshore operator drilling an HPHT well in the South China Sea. The customer needed high-quality sonic measurements while drilling to support real-time geomechanics analysis and reduce drilling risk in a narrow mud-weight window with high shock, vibration, and high-pressure formation challenges.

SLB deployed the SonicScope 825 multipole sonic-while-drilling service to provide real-time and memory sonic data, including slowness-time-coherence measurements for quality control. The service delivered an excellent match between real-time and memory compressional and shear slowness, helped evaluate a high-porosity gas zone despite mud invasion, and enabled the operator to successfully reach total depth with reduced risk and uncertainty.
