Operator Drills Highly Deviated Well to Record Depth with Integrated RDF System

SLB worked with a leading operating coiled tubing drilling company that needed to reduce system pressures without sacrificing hole-cleaning performance during a highly deviated, extended-reach sidetrack in Alaska. Earlier wells in the area suffered from high ECD and about 4,000-psi pressure losses, making it difficult to use a fluid system that could both stay within pressure limits and maintain good drilling hydraulics.

SLB recommended POWERPRO CT coiled tubing debris-removal fluid combined with POWERVIS linear biopolymer viscosifier. The integrated RDF system delivered strong rheology within system pressure parameters, drilled the well to record depth, and achieved excellent hole cleaning in a well reaching 80° inclination at 17,000 ft before kickoff and more than 95° in the open hole, with a clean, stable open hole in both laterals.
