SLB worked with a large oil drilling service provider operating offshore Norway to improve gravel-pack completion efficiency in wells drilled with an oil-base reservoir drill-in fluid. The customer had been using a brine-base carrier fluid, but experienced poor fluid displacement, incomplete gravel packing, and production that missed forecasted productivity index targets.

SLB replaced the brine with PrimoPAC invert-emulsion gravel-pack carrier fluid, tailored to each well’s conditions. The low-viscosity, solids-free fluid improved displacement and gravel placement, and all four wells achieved 100% gravel-pack completion efficiency while exceeding productivity index expectations by more than 30%. The fluid was also reused on later jobs, helping reduce waste, rig time, and costs.
