A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a Middle East Operating Company facing the challenge of stimulating oil production from a 1,400-ft offshore horizontal open hole in a hot carbonate formation. Conventional bullheaded 15% HCl treatments were not practical for the long lateral because of limited rig footprint, fluid distribution concerns, and the risk of rapid acid spending at high temperature.
SLB recommended and delivered the OpenPath Reach extended-contact stimulation service with a single-phase retarded acid system pumped through coiled tubing. The treatment reduced fluid volume and equipment needs, eliminated the need for a stimulation vessel, saved more than USD 180,000 and over 3 hours of rig time, and boosted oil production by more than 1,000 bbl/d above expectations.
