A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with a Kazakhstan based operating company to improve stimulation in a hot, fast-reactive limestone formation. The customer wanted to maintain matrix stimulation rates while reducing polymer-gelled acid use, lowering the risk of formation damage, and simplifying winter fluid mixing and heating operations.
SLB implemented an OpenPath Reach service with a single-phase retarded acid system, using smaller volumes of SDA acid or VDA acid to replace much of the conventional polymer-gelled and emulsified acid treatment. The new design cut polymer gel volume by 60%, reduced mixing time by 20% and heating energy needs by 8%, and helped raise production from 0 to 35 m3/d while maintaining high pumping rates for deeper acid penetration.
