OMV Optimizes Well Test Design and Improves Reservoir Characterization in Complex Operating Environment

OMV Austria E&P worked with SLB to optimize a well test in the Norwegian Barents Sea for the Wisting Central II appraisal well, a shallow but geologically complex reservoir. The company needed to reduce uncertainty in its reservoir model, understand the impact of nearby faults and the oil/water contact, and confirm reservoir connectivity.

SLB used GeoTesting geology-based well test design and interpretation services, including Global Sensitivity Analysis, to simulate multiple reservoir scenarios, determine the optimal test duration, and calibrate the reservoir model with dynamic well test data. The result was improved confidence in the reservoir interpretation, accurate model calibration, and confirmed reservoir connectivity, with uncertainty on key reservoir parameters clearly quantified.
