OMV Achieves Record Horizontal Appraisal Well Through Collaborative Well Engineering and Operation

OMV Austria E&P worked with SLB on a challenging shallow horizontal appraisal well in the Barents Sea, where the goals were to drill within time and budget, avoid HSE issues, and manage complex extended-reach drilling constraints such as high dogleg severity, torque and drag, ECD, and hole cleaning. The project also required successful horizontal well testing in a harsh Arctic environment using an integrated drilling, characterization, and well testing approach.

SLB delivered a customized end-to-end solution combining drilling optimization, reservoir mapping and formation evaluation, wireline characterization, and well testing technologies, supported by integrated project management and logistics. The company completed the well engineering phase in less than one year, achieved more than 12°/30 m dogleg severity, and conducted a successful horizontal well test at 795 m3/d [5,000 bbl/d] of oil equivalent, with all key objectives met and no HSE issues.
