North Sea Operator Saves 2–3 Days of Rig Time on P&A

SLB worked with North Sea Operating Company in the UK sector of the North Sea to support a plug and abandonment project. The operator needed to permanently abandon a well while avoiding the complexity, cost, and HSE risks of pulling 5½-in production tubing and dealing with possible long-term leak paths around gauge cables.

SLB recommended the CemFIT Heal flexible self-healing cement system to provide long-term isolation, including around the gauge cable. The operator pumped and set the cement plug without retrieving the tubing, achieved a successful 500-psi pressure test after 30 hours, and saved an estimated 2 to 3 days of rig time, worth about GBP 400,000 to 600,000 per well.
