North Sea Operator Cures Lost Circulation While Cementing in Weak Formation

SLB worked with North Sea Operating Company, which was drilling and cementing water injection wells in a North Sea field with depleted sandstone, a narrow window between pore and fracture pressure, and severe lost circulation during prior wells. The operator needed to control fluid losses while setting casing and achieving reliable cement placement in a troublesome formation.

SLB combined Losseal Microfracture lost circulation control treatment with CemNET advanced loss-control fiber technology, supported by CEMENTICS zonal isolation software and WARP advanced fluids technology, to reduce losses and improve cement integrity. The operation achieved full returns after the spacer and cement entered the annulus, successfully tested casing to 26.1 MPa, exceeded the cement bond log objective by 50%, and beat the formation integrity test target by 13%, helping avoid remedial work.
