Nexen Uses MAGNOGARD and MAGNOSTAR Magnets in North Sea Field, Recovers 44 kg of Debris

Nexen, working in the Golden Eagle field in the UK sector of the North Sea, faced a downhole debris problem after a bit failure and damage to a conventional MWD tool left junk in the wellbore. SLB helped address the challenge with MAGNOGARD and MAGNOSTAR magnets as part of the bottomhole assembly during a wiper trip.

SLB incorporated one MAGNOGARD openhole magnet and two MAGNOSTAR high-capacity magnets, along with other cleaning and debris recovery tools, to capture ferrous debris before running screens and setting a liner hanger. The system recovered 44 kg of debris in total, enabling Nexen to run the screens to depth and successfully set the liner hanger with no further drag or major issues.
