A SLB Case Study
SLB worked with an Eagle Ford Based Operating Company that needed a more reliable way to separate moveable from nonmoveable fluids and select the best horizontal well landing point in a complex unconventional reservoir. Traditional resistivity-based saturation methods carried too much uncertainty because of factors like formation water salinity, kerogen, and high-viscosity or solid hydrocarbons.
SLB used the CMR-MagniPHI high-definition NMR service, integrated with Litho Scanner and other formation evaluation methods, to continuously measure T1 and T2, map fluid distributions, and quantify porosity, kerogen, and bitumen. The results matched core analysis, improved reservoir volumetrics, and identified the highest-producibility zones for lateral landing targets over a 195-ft interval, giving the operator a more accurate basis for well placement.
